London, May 25: A mother and son from Haryana created history in Britain after both were elected as mayors in local council elections in the United Kingdom.
Parveen Rani and her son Tushar Kumar, originally from Rohtak district in Haryana, achieved the rare distinction after their family migrated to the UK in 2013.
Tushar Kumar, aged 23, became the youngest mayor of the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council. Meanwhile, Parveen Rani was elected as the first Indian origin mayor of the Hertsmere Borough Council.
Family From Haryana Creates History In Britain
The achievement has drawn attention both in India and the UK, as the mother and son assumed leadership roles in two different councils simultaneously.
Their success also reflects the growing participation of the Indian diaspora in British public life and local governance.
The family, which moved to Britain more than a decade ago, has remained actively involved in community and civic activities in the region.
The elections marked a significant milestone for Indian origin representation in local governance structures in Britain.
