Hyderabad, May 25: Junior doctors at Gandhi Hospital boycotted duties and staged a protest on Sunday demanding strict action against persons accused of attacking a postgraduate medical student at the hospital.
The protesting doctors alleged that a patient’s relative attacked PG student Shivshankar while he was on duty.
Junior doctors demanded increased security arrangements at the hospital and protection for doctors working during emergency and regular shifts.
Protest Comes Amid Medical Negligence Allegations
The protest also comes amid allegations of medical negligence following the death of Pallavi Goud, a second year B.Sc student of Gandhi Medical College.
According to family members, Pallavi was admitted to Gandhi Hospital with a chest related health problem.
Relatives alleged that doctors performed a second surgery after the first procedure reportedly failed. They claimed that continuous bleeding after the surgery led to her death.
The family further alleged negligence by hospital authorities and expressed anger over the delay in handing over the body.
Based on a complaint filed by the family members, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
