Internet, 17: Tesla has unveiled a redesigned Roadster electric sports car featuring rocket-style thrusters developed with SpaceX. The company says production is expected to begin in 2028, nearly nine years after revealing its next-generation Roadster in 2017.
The two-seater made a dramatic appearance at an event in Texas on October 15. During the demonstration, it drove upside down along a ramp using a suction system, performed an aerial manoeuvre and landed with built-in thrusters.
Tesla also demonstrated the vehicle jumping over other cars. However, the company has not clarified whether all the demonstrated capabilities will be available in the production model.
Tesla Roadster Raises Questions Over Price, Safety and Production
Tesla vehicle engineering chief Lars Moravy said the Roadster could accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than one second. The company also cited a top speed exceeding 230 mph and a driving range of more than 300 miles on a single charge.

The latest version represents a significant change from the conventional electric sports car Tesla first presented in 2017. The original plan targeted deliveries in 2020, but the project faced repeated delays.
Tesla has not announced a final price for the redesigned model. Its reservation page lists a Performance version requiring a $50,000 deposit and a Thrust version requiring $250,000. A single-seat Rocket version featuring a full flight system is available by invitation, according to the company.
The use of thrusters also raises questions about safety and whether the vehicle can legally operate on public roads. The demonstration showed brief aerial manoeuvres rather than sustained flight, and the legal status of these features remains unclear.
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has previously played down the Roadster’s likely financial contribution. However, the vehicle could serve as a showcase for the company’s engineering capabilities and brand image.
The launch comes as Tesla increasingly focuses on autonomous driving technology, robotaxis and humanoid robots. The company has also faced pressure over sales of its existing electric vehicle lineup.

Analysts have said Tesla’s financial performance and cash flow will remain important to investors. The Roadster’s commercial impact will depend on production progress, final specifications, pricing and delivery timelines.
