Hyderabad, Jan 23 (Maxim News): Mr. Mohammed Abid Ahsan, senior civil servant and Chairperson, School of Human Resource Management, TISS Hyderabad, has said that in spite of fast economic growth India is facing multiple problems that include rapid depletion of natural resources.
Delivering an extension lecture on Sustainable Development Goals: Issues and Concerns for Social Workers, Mr Abid underscored the need for bridging the gaps in socio-economic development, absence of necessary focus on marginalized groups, quick dispensation of justice and depletion of natural resources. “These issues should be the main thrust areas for trained social workers to ensure balanced development in true sense of the term,” said Prof. Mohammed.
The lecture was organized by the Department of Social Work, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, on January 20 to fully appreciate the areas where the Social Workers should contribute in an effective manner.
Mr. Abid asked the students of social work to relook at the principles of human rights and social justice with a view to developing a just human society in the pursuit of achieving Social Development Goals.
Interacting with students he asked them to develop skills, patience, passion and a set of values for community service to bring about a positive change in marginalized communities.
Dr. Md Shahid Raza, Head Department of Social Work, pointed out that social workers are required to redefine their role in empowerment and development of people.
