The Telangana High Court has directed the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities to present a detailed sketch of the second phase alignment between MGBS and Falaknuma. The court said that the plan must clearly indicate all historical structures, road crossings, and overhead constructions along the proposed route.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Aparish Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin, passed these orders while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Mohammad Rahim Khan, who heads the Act Public Welfare Foundation (APWF). The petitioner asked for suspension of construction under the metro’s second-phase expansion, part of the fourth corridor that links MGBS to Shamshabad.

During the hearing, advocate Rama Rao, representing the petitioner, said that the ongoing works might harm several heritage structures. These include Charminar, Falaknuma Palace, Purani Haveli, Darul Shifa, Azakhana-e-Zehra, Imad Masjid, and the Moghulpura Tombs. He pointed out that except for Hyderabad Metro Rail, none of the respondents had submitted their counter-affidavits. Because of this, he urged that all metro-related works be stopped until the issue was resolved.

Reacting to the plea, Additional Advocate General Mohammad Imran Khan assured the court that the metro alignment would not disturb heritage monuments. He said that even though the route passes over religious and historical structures like mosques, shrines, and eidgahs, there would be no physical impact or contact with them. He added that only one structure might need special attention, for which approval from the Centre and the court would be sought.

The bench then instructed metro officials to submit the alignment sketch before any further steps are taken in the case. The petitioner’s counsel also requested the appointment of an advocate commissioner to examine the site alignment, but the court said it would consider that option later if necessary. The case has been adjourned to December 18 for the next hearing.
