High Court Disappointed With Govt’s Report On Flood Situation

Hyderabad, Aug 1 (Maxim News):  The High Court has taken up a hearing into the heavy rains and floods in the state of Telangana.  The Court expressed dissatisfaction with the report submitted by the State government.

Advocates for the petitioners, Chikudu Prabhakar and Palle Pradeep objected to the state government’s report.  The lawyers for the government told the court that the state government has allocated Rs. 500 crores for the flood victims. The lawyers on behalf of the petitioners brought to the attention of the court that the farmers and people in six districts of Telangana have suffered a lot.  Nirmal, Komuram Bheem, Bhupalapalli, Bhadradri Kothalgudem, Asifabad, and Peddapalli districts have suffered severe damage due to rains and floods, he said.

The Advocates for the petitioners told the High Court that although the Central government had warned about the rains on July 19, the state government had not taken any action.  It is said that 16 people died because the people trapped in Moranchapalli and Jampanna rivers pleaded for their rescue for almost 14 hours but no action was taken.  The petitioners’ lawyers said that the Chief Secretary’s statement that five people were rescued was untrue.  Jayashankar explained to the court that although there was heavy damage in Bhupalapalli district, it was not included in the government report.  He said that no action has been taken even though the court asked to tell what action was taken regarding the Kadem project. It was explained to the court that there are 172 villages under the Kadem project.  He said that even minimum facilities were not provided to the flood victims in the rehabilitation centers.

Who is giving Rs. 500 crores released by the State government? What kind of help was provided to the flood victims? the High Court ordered the state government to give a full report on such matters.  The High Court ordered the state government to take precautions to prevent the spread of diseases.  The High Court adjourned the further hearing to next Friday.
