- High Court seeks explanation on Vemulawada Dargah relocation in Rajanna Sircilla district
- Petition by Najeema challenges decision; counters ordered from officials
Hyderabad: The High Court has issued notices to the government over the proposed relocation of the Vemulawada Dargah in Rajanna Sircilla district. The court sought a detailed explanation regarding the decision to shift the dargah and directed key officials to respond.
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy recently took up a petition filed by a woman named Najeema. She challenged the decision to shift the Vemulawada Dargah. After hearing initial arguments, the judge ordered the authorities to file counters with complete details. The court then adjourned the hearing to the 16th.
The High Court directed the Revenue Department Principal Secretary, the District Collector, the Wakf Board CEO, the Vemulawada Temple Executive Officer and the District SP to submit their responses. The court specifically asked them to explain the decision to relocate the dargah and provide full information on the matter.
During the hearing, Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy presented the government’s stand. He said that the government decided to shift prayer halls of other religions in view of the large number of devotees visiting Vemulawada. He stated that the relocation aims to move such structures to another area with more facilities. However, he clarified that the move follows public opinion. He also said that no action has been taken against any religion.
After hearing these arguments, the judge made it clear that counters must be filed. The court further stated that any removal action would remain subject to its orders. Therefore, the matter will continue under judicial review until further directions.
The case has drawn attention as it concerns the relocation of a religious structure in Vemulawada. Meanwhile, the High Court’s notices underline the need for official clarification. The next hearing is scheduled for the 16th, when the court will examine the counters filed by the concerned authorities.
