Hyderabad, May 16: Telangana High Court refused to grant interim bail to Bandi Bhagirath in the POCSO case registered against him, dealing a setback to the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The High Court heard arguments from both sides on the anticipatory bail petition filed by Bandi Bhagirath. Senior advocate Niranjan Reddy, appearing for Bhagirath, requested the court to protect him from arrest until completion of the hearing.
However, the court stated that it was not inclined to issue interim protection or interim bail under the present circumstances.
High Court Reserves Orders In Bhagirath Bail Plea
During the hearing, Bhagirath’s counsel argued that there were inconsistencies regarding the age details of the complainant mentioned in different records.
The prosecution opposed the plea and urged the court not to grant any interim relief in the case registered under the POCSO Act.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court said final orders on the anticipatory bail petition would be issued during the next hearing.
According to preliminary information, the court is likely to pronounce its verdict next Thursday.
The case against Bandi Bhagirath was registered at Petbasheerabad Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act following allegations made by the minor girl’s family.
The case has triggered major political attention in Telangana in recent days.
