Hilt Policy Dispute Sparks BJP Complaint to Governor
- BJP leaders allege low-rate land allotments under Hilt policy
- Party plans Mahadharna on December 7 over Hilt policy issues
BJP leaders met Governor Jishnu Dev Verma in Hyderabad to protest against the Hilt policy introduced by the state government. They submitted a complaint and said the policy has led to serious concerns over land allotments. Later, BJP state president Ramachandra Rao briefed the media and explained the issues raised before the Governor. He stated that they “complained against the Hilt policy” because it allows land meant for industrial use to be converted into real estate.
He alleged that this conversion is creating “irregularities worth crores of rupees.” He further said the lands are being sold “at rates lower than the market value,” which he claimed would harm both industry and the public. According to him, “9292 thousand acres of land worth 6.30 lakh crores are being tied up to real estate traders for just 5 thousand crores.” He questioned the government by asking, “Is the government doing real estate business..? Is it administering..”
Ramachandra Rao also argued that the Congress government has failed to implement its promises. He said it is “benefiting by tying up industrial lands to real estate traders.” He also announced that the BJP will hold a Mahadharna at Indira Park on the 7th of this month to protest against the Hilt policy. He added that the Governor “has promised to discuss the Hilt policy with the government,” which the party sees as an important step.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Eleti Maheshwar Reddy said they filed a complaint with the Governor and will join the protest planned for December 7. He repeated that the government has failed to address the issues linked to the Hilt policy. Several leaders accompanied the delegation, including Maheshwar Reddy, MLC Anji Reddy, General Secretary Virender Goud, the GHMC floor leader and other senior party members. They said the meeting was necessary to highlight what they believe are serious flaws in the new policy.
The BJP leaders also noted that more programmes will follow the Mahadharna if the government does not respond to their concerns. They said their aim is to pressure the government to review the Hilt policy and protect public land from misuse.
