Hyderabad, July 26 (Maxim News): In a tragic turn of events, a Telangana Housing Board official, R. Jagadishwar Rao (52), lost his life during a property sealing operation at Mehdipatnam on Saturday morning. Rao, who served as an Assistant Estate Officer, reportedly collapsed during a scuffle that broke out while executing a court-ordered possession drive.
According to Housing Board officials, a team had visited MP Function Hall in Mehdipatnam to take over the property following a court judgment in favor of the board. The leaseholder, Khaja Ishaquddin, allegedly owed the board Rs. 1.22 crore in arrears, with the lease expiring in 2014. After years of litigation, the court had recently granted the board rights to reclaim the property.
Tension Escalates During Sealing Attempt
As per the board, after notifying the local police, the team proceeded to seal the function hall. They had locked one of the three gates and were moving to secure the second when a physical altercation broke out. Officials claim that Khaja Ishaquddin had allegedly brought in bouncers to disrupt the operation.
Amid the chaos, Jagadishwar Rao collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police Investigation Underway
The Asifnagar Police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Statements are being recorded from Housing Board staff and witnesses, and officials said further legal action will follow based on the findings.
Housing Board Officials Demand Justice
Senior Housing Board authorities have condemned the incident, terming it an attack on a government servant on duty, and demanded strict action against those responsible for Rao’s death.
