Hyderabad Airport: Bird Strike During Landing Raises Safety Concerns
According to aviation experts, a bird strike during landing is one of the most dangerous scenarios in air travel. The pilot, who quickly identified the problem, managed to control the aircraft and land it without incident. Airport officials described the pilot’s skill and alertness as commendable.
Passengers recalled the tense moments inside the cabin. Some said they heard a sudden loud noise before the aircraft started shaking. Fear spread among passengers, but relief came once the plane safely reached the runway. “We all got out safely due to the pilot’s cleverness,” one passenger said.
After the landing, passengers were safely escorted to the terminal. None of the passengers or crew members were injured.
Airport Officials Conduct Inspections
Following the incident, Shamshabad Airport authorities carried out runway inspections. An engineering team was deployed to check the IndiGo aircraft for any engine damage caused by the bird strike. The aircraft was moved to the hangar for technical assessment.
Airport officials noted that Shamshabad has witnessed several bird strike incidents in the past. Despite measures such as bird control units, ultrasonic devices, laser lights, and sirens, preventing bird activity around the airport remains a challenge.
Aviation safety experts stress that bird strikes pose a major threat during takeoff and landing. They recommend stricter environmental management around airports, including the removal of garbage dumps and open fields that attract birds.
The Shamshabad incident serves as a reminder of the importance of air safety protocols. The swift actions of the IndiGo pilot and crew helped avert a tragedy and ensured the safe return of 162 passengers.
