Hyderabad, June 4: A Hyderabad biker has alleged that a Sub-Inspector of police assaulted him while he was riding from Kondapur to Gachibowl, triggering controversy after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
The biker, identified as Shaik Gouse, posted a video on Instagram claiming that a police Sub-Inspector hit him with a baton during a traffic check. In the video, he is seen riding through traffic when the officer allegedly taps his helmet and stops him.
According to the video, the biker questions the officer, asking why he was hit. The Sub-Inspector is heard responding that a vehicle check was underway and instructing him to stop, remove his helmet camera, and bring the bike forward.
The biker, however, objected to what he described as harassment of commuters during routine checks and confronted the officer at the spot.
Gouse later stated that the incident took place near Niloufer Cafe in Gachibowli around 10:30 PM while he was returning from Manikonda after meeting a friend. He said he was riding normally in traffic when the incident occurred.
Following the episode, he approached Raidurg police station to lodge a complaint. However, he alleged that he was made to wait for nearly two hours without action, after which he left the station.
The next day, he escalated the matter to Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh. According to the biker, the Commissioner acknowledged concerns over racing activities by some youth in the area and stated that police action was aimed at preventing illegal street racing. The matter was then forwarded to the Kukatpally Deputy Commissioner of Police for further inquiry.
However, Gouse alleged that the DCP did not accept his complaint and questioned his version of events, asking how police could differentiate between regular commuters and street racers if riders use helmets and sports bikes.
The allegations have sparked discussion on social media regarding police conduct during night-time vehicle checks in IT corridor areas like Gachibowli. Official police clarification on the incident is awaited.
