Hyderabad celebrates Raksha Bandhan with #sisterforchange #GiftAHelmet initiative
Hyderabad: Raksha Bandhan festivities began on a colourful note in Hyderabad, celebrating the unique bond between brothers and sisters. The occasion saw the #sisters4change and #GiftAHelmet initiative of Nizamabad MP, K Kavitha, drawing positive response from the public.
As part of the festivities, Kavitha began the day by tying a ‘rakhi’ to her brother and Industries minister, KT Rama Rao, and presented a helmet as well to him. In return and coinciding with Handloom Day celebrations, Rao presented his sister with a handloom sari.
From the early hours of Monday, sisters and brothers started uploading their pictures, along with those of the rakhis and helmets, using the #sisters4change hashtag.
“On the occasion of Rakhi day, sister presented me a helmet and tied a Rakhi,” said Anilkumar Kakarla, tagging the MP, K. Kavitha, as well, on Twitter.
Ch. Santosh Kumar, another brother who received a helmet and a Rakhi from his sister Suchita uploaded his picture on Twitter and tagged the Nizamabad MP.
“I am here to protect my sister and to protect me, she has presented me with a helmet,” he wrote.
The GiftAHelmet initiative has been drawn appreciation from across the country with noted sand artist from Odisha Sudershan Patnaik coming up with a sand art celebrating Raksha Bandhan and the #sisters4change cause.
The initiative also attracted attention from cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who said it was a unique way of celebrating Raksha Bandhan.
