Hyderabad: Fake Plasma Donor Nabbed For Cheating COVID Patients

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man who cheated several Covid-19 patients after taking money from them promising to donate plasma, was arrested here on Monday.

The man was identified as Sandeep Reddy, a native of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, Reddy had contacted several persons who posted appeals on social media platforms asking persons who had recovered from Covid-19 to come forward to donate plasma to those who were in urgent need of it.

“On the pretext of transportation charges, the man collected money from the families of the patients and later stopped communicating with them,” said G Chakravarthy, Additional DCP, Task Force.

Sandeep also contacted persons who were in need of antiviral drugs like Tocilizumab 400 mg and collected money from them, and disappeared without giving them the promised drug. “So far, he has cheated around 200 persons,” Chakravarthy said, adding that Reddy was handed over to the Punjagutta police for further action.
