Hyderabad, May 12: The country’s first exclusive cricket league for Company Secretaries, the Hyderabad Professional Premier League (HPPL), was officially launched in the city on Sunday. The initiative aims to promote mental wellness, professional networking, leadership and fitness among corporate professionals.
The inaugural ceremony and jersey launch witnessed participation from more than 400 Company Secretaries, professionals and business leaders, making it one of the largest professional sporting launches in Hyderabad.
The league was conceptualised by four practising Company Secretaries — Navjyoth Puttaparthi, Vikram Reddy Palvai, Bhoopal Reddy and Chagan Lal.
Retired DGP A Gopal Reddy attended the programme as chief guest, while actor Satyam Rajesh participated as guest of honour.
HPPL Season 1 to feature 22 teams
HPPL Season 1 will feature 22 teams representing the Company Secretary fraternity. The matches will begin from May 16 at Fitforte Sports Arena in Madhura Nagar and continue for three weeks.
The grand finale of the tournament is scheduled for May 31, 2026.
Speaking at the launch event, Navjyoth Puttaparthi said the league was designed to address growing concerns related to stress, mental health and isolation among professionals working in demanding corporate environments.
He stated that HPPL is not just a cricket tournament but a platform to create a healthier and more connected professional community.
The organisers announced plans to expand HPPL over the next five years by bringing together more than 100 teams from various professional communities onto a common sporting platform.
They said the initiative would gradually include other professional groups in future editions, transforming HPPL into a larger inter professional networking and wellness movement.
Vikram Reddy Palvai said professional leagues are becoming increasingly important as modern work environments are stressful and highly demanding. He noted that platforms like HPPL help strengthen professional communities while encouraging fitness, leadership and social bonding.
Organisers highlighted that Company Secretaries play a crucial role in corporate governance, legal compliance and ethical functioning of organisations. Telangana currently has nearly 2,500 Company Secretaries, including around 2,000 professionals based in Hyderabad.
The organisers added that HPPL is envisioned as a long term public interest initiative that promotes collaboration, leadership and community engagement beyond sports.
The successful launch of HPPL Season 1 has positioned the league as a first of its kind initiative that could inspire similar professional sporting events across India.
