Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 Takeover, Phase 2 Expansion Talks Make Progress

Hyderabad, June 23 (Maxim News): Talks on the takeover of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 1 and the expansion of Phase 2 made progress after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held back to back meetings with Union ministers in New Delhi.

The discussions focused on removing hurdles linked to Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 acquisition and the proposed Phase 2 expansion. The Chief Minister first met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Monday night.

On Tuesday morning, Revanth Reddy held another meeting with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kishan Reddy also attended the meeting at Khattar’s residence.

The leaders discussed the valuation of Hyderabad Metro Phase 1, the process for taking over the project, loan mobilisation, the selection of lending institutions and the financial requirements for the Phase 2 expansion. They also reviewed the estimated construction cost of the proposed second phase.

During the meeting, the Centre and the state government agreed to appoint a consultant to study all financial and technical issues linked to the metro project. The consultant will examine the valuation of Phase 1, the takeover structure, funding options, Phase 2 expansion costs and loan requirements.

The meeting decided to appoint SBICAPS as the consultant. SBICAPS will carry out a comprehensive study and submit a report on Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 valuation, Phase 2 expansion and related matters.

The future course of action will be decided based on the consultant’s report. Officials said the study is expected to help both governments move ahead on the long pending issues in a structured manner.

The meeting also decided to appoint one representative each from the Centre and the Telangana government to coordinate the consultant’s work. The central government will nominate one officer, while the Telangana government will nominate the Special Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department.

Both officials will coordinate with each other and work to ensure that the process moves forward quickly. The latest round of discussions is being seen as a key step in resolving pending issues related to Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 takeover and the planned Phase 2 expansion. (Maxim News)
