Hyderabad Metro Phase 2: Big Update On 76.4 Km Expansion Project
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, asking for approval on the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and funding for the Musi River redevelopment, among other important projects. In the meeting on Wednesday, Reddy mentioned that the previous government had neglected metro rail expansion over its 10-year tenure, according to an official statement.
Reddy told the Prime Minister about the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project, which will cover 76.4 km across five corridors, costing Rs 24,269 crore. He urged Modi to approve this ambitious project immediately.
Dry Port & Infrastructure Plans
Since Telangana is a landlocked state, the Chief Minister also asked Modi to approve a Dry Port near the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Hyderabad, which would help with the region’s import and export activities. Additionally, Reddy suggested building a new road and rail line to connect the Dry Port with a seaport, improving transportation.
Musi River Redevelopment Plan
Reddy also shared plans to rejuvenate the Musi River, which requires Rs 20,000 crore in funding from the Centre. The project includes restoring Bapu Ghat, a memorial for Mahatma Gandhi along the river, building 27 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), and creating retaining walls. The plan also proposes connecting the Musi River with the Godavari River to improve its environment and development.
Tech and Infrastructure Projects
The Chief Minister also asked the Prime Minister to approve the ‘India Semiconductor Mission’ project to boost the state’s tech ecosystem. Additionally, Reddy spoke about the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, explaining that 90 percent of the land acquisition for the northern section is already complete. He said the full potential of the RRR can only be reached if both the northern and southern parts are completed at the same time.
Regional Ring Rail Project
Reddy also proposed a Regional Ring Rail project, which would run alongside the Regional Ring Road (RRR). This project aims to improve rail connections within Telangana and neighboring states, making travel easier and boosting the region’s economy.
In short, the Chief Minister’s meeting with PM Modi focused on several major plans that could transform Hyderabad’s infrastructure, improve connectivity, and support the state’s growth. The expansion of the Hyderabad Metro and other proposals highlight the state’s vision for a modern, thriving future.
