Hyderabad: Motorists heading to work faced severe inconvenience on Saturday as roads around Hussain Sagar remained closed for the second consecutive day due to the Ganesh immersion procession.
Long queues of vehicles were reported on roads leading towards Indira Park, Lower Tank Bund and other stretches around Hussain Sagar. Commuters complained that the continued restrictions were causing delays and making it difficult to reach their destinations.
At several locations, motorists were seen arguing with traffic police after being stopped from entering restricted stretches. Confrontations were reported at Indira Park and Lower Tank Bund as commuters sought permission to pass through the affected roads.
Ganesh Immersion Traffic Diversions Continue in Hyderabad
Traffic police personnel said the restrictions were necessary because of the ongoing immersion arrangements and security requirements.
The traffic police issued a fresh advisory on Saturday, stating that diversions and restrictions would continue on several routes to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion programme.
Motorists were advised to avoid roads around Hussain Sagar and use alternative routes wherever possible.
The restrictions led to congestion on several connecting roads as a large number of people travelled towards central Hyderabad for work and other activities.
Police personnel were deployed at key junctions to regulate traffic and prevent vehicles from entering restricted stretches.
Traffic police appealed to motorists to cooperate with the diversions and plan their journeys in advance. The restrictions are being enforced to ensure the safe and smooth movement of Ganesh immersion processions.
