Hyderabad, August 29: Mailardevpally Police arrested a 30 year old man for allegedly cheating people through a fake Umrah travel scheme promoted on Instagram.
Police registered the case under Crime No. 164/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 316(2) of the BNS and Section 66D of the IT Act.
The accused, Mohd Imran, a photographer from Bahadurpura, allegedly worked with absconding accused Syed Absaruddin, who is currently in Dubai.
Hyderabad Umrah Travel Scam Targeted Customers Through Instagram
According to police, the accused operated the “tours_2_Umrah” travel business from Orbit Towers in Madhapur. They allegedly contacted customers who responded to Instagram advertisements for Umrah packages.
Police said complainant Zeeshan Saad planned to travel for Umrah with his family during Ramadan. He contacted the advertised number after seeing the Instagram page.
The person who answered allegedly introduced himself as Syed Absaruddin. He reportedly quoted Rs 4 lakh for the Umrah package.
Trusting the offer, the complainant allegedly transferred Rs 3.5 lakh. However, the accused did not provide the promised visa and later switched off the phone.
Police said the same person allegedly cheated other customers of several lakhs using a similar method.
Mailardevpally Police traced and arrested Mohd Imran on August 29. They seized one mobile phone and documents related to the case.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP S. Srinivas, IPS, and ACP A. Sudhakar. SHO Ch. Srinivas, DI Maqsood Ali and other police personnel participated.
Police have advised the public to verify Umrah travel agencies before making payments. They also warned people against trusting travel offers advertised through social media without proper verification.
