Hyderabad Runners Honour Marathon Champions At Awards Night

Hyderabad, April 16: Hyderabad Runners honoured standout athletes at its 13th Annual Awards Night. The event celebrated achievements in endurance running and community fitness initiatives.

The highlight was the recognition of Jagadeeswari Garikapati and Saravanan Annamalai. Both were honoured for exceptional endurance and dedication to long distance running. Their journeys inspired members of the running community.

Hyderabad Runners said the event recognised perseverance and athletic excellence. It also highlighted efforts to promote fitness and well being across the city.

At 60, Jagadeeswari Garikapati earned special recognition. She completed multiple endurance events, including a six hour stadium run and several half marathons. She also achieved podium finishes while running in a saree.

Saravanan Annamalai was honoured for consistency. He completed 197 half marathons and 28 full marathons. In total, he covered over 20000 kilometres in seven years.

He also maintained a streak of 2140 consecutive days of running. This achievement reflected discipline and long term commitment to fitness.

Reethesh Kumar Meena received recognition for inclusivity. He guided a visually impaired runner to complete a 25 km Pinkathon run.

Hyderabad Runners president Arun Kumar Kaliappan highlighted grassroots efforts. He said the Project Champion initiative supported students in government schools. Several participants have already reached Khelo India level.

The organisation also promotes structured training such as mindful running. It aims to build awareness about fitness as part of daily life.

Looking ahead, the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2027 is expected to draw over 35000 participants. The event will further strengthen Hyderabad’s position in the running community.

The awards night concluded with a networking session. Athletes and supporters gathered to celebrate a shared commitment to fitness.
