Hyderabad Sailing Week from 04 Jul to 09 Jul 2023

Secunderabad, 03 Jul 2023: The Media Brief for Hyderabad Sailing Week-2023 was conducted by Major General Ajay Sharma, Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor MCEME, Vice Commodore EME Sailing Association, on 03 Jul 2023 at Secunderabad Sailing Club in the presence of Colonel Sunil Udeck, Rear Commodore EME Sailing Association, Lieutenant Colonel Akshat Dogra, Secretary, EME Sailing Association, Mr Arjun Pradipak, Commodore Secunderabad Sailing Club, Mr M. Siva Hari Naik, Defence PRO Hyderabad. With the onset of monsoons each year, the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad witness the most competitive, prestigious, colourful and glamorous event known as ’Hyderabad Sailing Week’ with the beautiful sight of colourful sails in the backdrop of Hussain Sagar. National Level Sailing Championship at the Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad, is now in its 37th year. The event, over the years, has become a big attraction for locals and tourists alike.

Lieutenant General JS Sidana, Commandant MCEME, Colonel Commandant Corps of EME, Commodore EME Sailing Association and Vice President Laser Class Association of India shall be the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony to be conducted on 04 Jul 2023. Many senior Army Officers and Govt Officials are likely to grace the occasion with their presence. The event is scheduled from 04 Jul 2023 to 09 Jul 2023. National Sailing Coaching Camp was conducted from 20 Jun 2023 to 30 Jun 2023 as a precursor to the main event. National Judges Seminar has already been conducted from 29 & 30 Jun 2023 and National Measurers Clinic was conducted on 01 & 02 Jul 2023.

Hyderabad is a popular destination for sailing in the country. The wind conditions in Jul to Aug are the most favourable in the Hussain Sagar Lake to hone the skills of sailors in boat handling and understanding the wind shifts. This is a landmark year for the EME Sailing Association as this year also the event has been accredited as the YAI National Ranking event wherein, the performance of the sailors will be ranked, which will give them points for selection into the National Team. The eco-friendly sport is getting popular day by day and over one hundred sailors from all over the country are expected to participate in this year’s event.

The event will see one of the biggest congregation of sailors in the country. A series of events have been planned for making Hyderabad Sailing Week-2023 a huge festival of sails for the twin cities. Practice Races are scheduled on 04 Jul 2023, whereas competition sailing will be conducted from 05 to 08 Jul 2023. The Closing Ceremony and Prize distribution will be held on 09 Jul 2023.
