The proposed project covers the Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Machilipatnam corridor. It envisages widening the existing highway to six lanes, developing service roads on both sides and providing controlled-access facilities.
The expansion comes amid growing traffic volumes and concerns over frequent road accidents along NH-65. The state government has urged NHAI to expedite the work and prioritise commuter safety.
The highway currently serves as a key route for people travelling between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. It also supports commercial transport between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The project is expected to improve traffic movement and provide safer access to settlements along the corridor. Service roads could also help local residents reach nearby areas without directly entering the main carriageway.

However, the six-laning work has not yet begun. The November tender deadline and January 2027 start date remain the announced timeline for the project.

NHAI has confirmed that the deadline for tender submission is November 11, 2026, with construction scheduled to commence by January 2027.
