It gave powers to HYDRA to demolish all the illegal structures in the Greater Hyderabad area. The GHMC Act made several changes. GHMC is a municipal department under Act 374B inserted a special section. With this, HYDRA will increase its aggression in 27 municipalities and 33 villages along with Municipalities. From now on, government properties will be protected under GHMC. From issuing notices to demolition of illegal buildings, HYDRA will do everything. HYDRA will issue notices regarding invasions with fresh powers.

Speaking orders will be issued if the builders do not submit the relevant permits and necessary documents. If their explanation is still not reasonable then HYDRA has the power to demolish/seize the structure. It is known that HYDRA, which had earlier clamped down on illegal constructions in ponds and parks, has been acting in abeyance for some time in the wake of the High Court order. Field investigation of complaints related to encroachment is being done and the focus is on determination of the actual area of ponds, FTL, and buffer zone.

The HYDRA hopes to proceed legally from now on in the wake of the G.O. issue. In fact, municipalities along with GHMC have the power to demolish encroachments on roads, parks, and ponds without giving any notice. But, in the wake of the High Court’s objections to the demolitions, HYDRA will take a decision only after issuing notices and speaking orders.

Commissioner AV Ranganath said that in the context of HYDRA’s range up to the Outer Ring Road, it will proceed under the GHMC Act up to Greater Hyderabad and within the scope of the 27 Municipalities Corporations in the outer areas under the Municipal Act. He said that with the latest G.O., HYDRA has become stronger and has gained full power. He said that HYDRA will also issue notices to those encroaching on government places along with demolishing unauthorized buildings.  (Maxim News)
