I Agree Sec’bad Cantonment Merge into GHMC: KTR
Secunderabad, Sept.22 (Maxim News): Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao today said that he agrees to a merger proposal of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) area into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) purview.
In twitter the Minister stated that he went through some news items in the media in support of Secunderabad Cantonment merger with the GHMC.
The Municipal Minister tries to elicit public opinion on this proposal. I have gone through media reports that some of the people in the city are seeking to merge the cantonment area.
He sought to know what the public thought of the same. I agree with it and what the people say, he asked.
The tweet, which triggered over 250 responses in a couple of hour with over 200 retweets and more than 1,700 likes, saw a majority of the people responding favourably to the concept of a merger, which in fact, has been a long-standing demand of the people living in the Cantonment, citing a lack of apathy from the Cantonment Board towards public grievances, ranging from water supply issues, garbage clearance and the condition of roads.
While some responded saying it was an ‘absolute yes’ and that such a merger was ‘long overdue’, some said ‘any change that brings improvement’ was welcome. Others pointed out that while the infrastructure in the rest of the city had strategically developed in the last few years, the “poorer” among the twin cities was remaining as it was without expressways or road extensions, not to forget the restrictions put by the Local Military Authority on the public using several thoroughfares.
It is to mention here that Secunderbad Cantonment Board is the civic administrative agency of Secunderabad cantonment area. Geographically, it lies in the twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad. Secunderabad Cantonment Board is India’s second largest cantonment board, after Bathinda Cantonment. (Maxim News)
