Ibrahimpatnam Municipal Chairman Election Cancelled: Equations Changed With High Court Stay
Hyderabad, Feb 17 (Maxim News): The political atmosphere has heated up in Ibrahimpatnam Municipality in Rangareddy district . The election process for the chairman was almost over when the Election Commission announced the cancellation of the election with the stay order issued by the Telangana High Court .
The reason for the postponement of the election is the disappearance of Ward 19 Councilor Akula Yadagiri. Yadagiri’s son filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court alleging that his father was kidnapped by someone. The court ordered the police to produce Yadagiri before them. The High Court issued an interim order staying the election of the chairman till then.
While the court proceedings were going on, interesting developments took place in the Ibrahimpatnam council. Tekula Sudarshan Reddy of BRS was elected as the chairman by 15 councilors. The election of the vice-chairman was postponed to Friday. Councilor Yadagiri, who was thought to have been kidnapped in this process, unexpectedly appeared in the council hall immediately after the election process was over. The officials stopped the Ibrahimpatnam election after receiving a stay order from the High Court just when the name of the chairman was to be officially announced. (Maxim News)
