Hyderabad, Oct. 15: Actor Imran Khan has reportedly received a Mumbai Police notice directing him to leave India by October 28, following his participation in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to the report, action was taken under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Police detained the actor on October 10 in connection with the protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan.
The notice follows a complaint by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya, who approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities on October 13. Somaiya requested a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the actor and sought to prevent him from travelling abroad until the inquiry and police investigation were completed.
BJP Leader Seeks Immigration Action Against Imran Khan
In a letter to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Somaiya asked the ministry to issue directions under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. He also urged the Bureau of Immigration to alert police if Khan attempted to leave India.
Somaiya alleged that the October 10 gathering took place without the required permission. He said Gamdevi Police Station registered FIR No. 813 of 2026 in connection with the incident, naming Khan in the case. Somaiya also stated that he had not received a copy of the FIR.

The BJP leader claimed that Khan is a US citizen and reportedly holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He urged authorities to examine whether the actor’s participation warranted action under Section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
These statements reflect Somaiya’s allegations and requests. The report does not establish the outcome of the authorities’ review.
