Increase Institutional Deliveries in Govt Hospitals: Harish

Jagityal, May 4 (Maxim News): Minister for Health T Harish Rao today stressed the need of increasing institutional deliveries in government hospitals and of reducing the caesarian operations in private hospitals.

The Minister also said the practice of conducting caesarian operations in private hospitals at the time of Muhurtham fixed by priests should go and warned those doctors who indulge in such surgeries. Harish Rao, along with Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar inaugurated a 100-bedded hospital at Jagityal town on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said the State government was striving to improve facilities in government hospitals and has earmarked sufficient budget to strengthen the public health system in Telangana.

The minister pointed out that the number of deliveries has increased from 30 percent to 56 percent in all government hospitals across the State after launching the KCR Kits program, which is first of its kind in the country.

Expressing concern over some private and corporate hospitals indulging in unnecessary caesarian operations for the sake of money, Harish Rao asked these hospitals not to encourage such practice and warned them of stringent action.

“The private hospitals should shun needless caesarian surgeries as they are causing loss and agony to the patients,” Harish Rao said. He also disclosed that the State government was considering a proposal of Rs 3,000 incentives to those Asha workers who encourage the pregnant women to undergo the institutional delivery in government hospitals and the decision in this regard will be taken soon.

Stating that the Telangana is only State paying highest wage of Rs 9,750 per month to Asha workers, whereas Gujara government offers Rs 4,000, Rajasthan pays Rs 3000 and Madhya Pradesh offers Rs 3000, Harish Rao said and asked that Asha should dedicate more in their work at the grassroots level and encourage the pregnant women for undergoing the institutional deliveries in government hospitals.
