Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 27 (Maxim News): Opposition parties in the INDIA alliance are likely to hold a meeting in Delhi on September 30 to discuss concerns related to the Election Commission and the Special Comprehensive Revision (SCR) of electoral rolls.
The proposed meeting comes amid increased coordination among opposition parties over issues concerning the Election Commission. Leaders are discussing a possible joint response, according to sources.
Opposition Parties Step Up Coordination Over EC Issues
The CPI(M), CPI and CPI(ML) Liberation have demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for an immediate halt to the bypoll process.
The Congress has also stepped up its criticism of the CEC. The Congress Working Committee is scheduled to meet on September 29 to discuss the party’s strategy on the issue.
The developments have also brought political rivals in West Bengal onto a common platform on the Election Commission issue. The Trinamool Congress and Left parties have been critical of aspects of the electoral roll revision process.
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby reportedly wrote to INDIA alliance and other opposition leaders seeking a meeting to discuss the latest developments.
Baby also spoke with West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. According to the information provided by the parties, Banerjee agreed on the need for coordinated action.
The September 30 meeting, if held, is expected to focus on the Election Commission, electoral roll revision and the opposition parties’ proposed response to these issues.
