India has tremendous potential to emerge as the global powerhouse of healthcare sector: Governor

Hyderabad, Dec.6 (Maxim News): Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said that India has the tremendous potential to emerge as the global powerhouse of the healthcare sector.

She said that it was important to leverage the emerging technologies to transform the country’s healthcare sector in tune with the international quality and standards. The Governor, as the chief guest, in a virtual mode, was delivering the 65th Foundation Lecture of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), here.

The foundation day lecture was on the theme titled “How India can become a healthcare powerhouse for the world.” Emphasizing on the huge potential for the country in healthcare sector, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan highlighted the scope in areas like pharma, medical tourism, vaccine development, and training the medical and paramedical specialists in tune with the international standards.

The Governor suggested 4-I mantra-Innovation, Integration, Increased funding, and Internationalization of standards in healthcare- for the country to transform itself as a world healthcare capital.

Emphasizing on being self-reliant in terms of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that was very vital for the growth and sustainability of the pharmaceutical sector of the country.

With the sustained efforts and augmenting infrastructure, technology, and offering quality services on a par with international standards, India can emerge as one of the top five destinations for medical tourism.

The Governor also highlighted the need to have a pragmatic and practical blueprint with time-bound targets for its initiatives to emerge as the global powerhouse in the healthcare domain. She stated that maintaining world class standards in all aspects is non-negotiable for the country in healthcare sector and called for the greater integration of technology in the field.

The Governor called for the creation of enabling start-up ecosystem for innovation in the healthcare, while promoting the artificial intelligence, robotics, digital health technologies, and analytics.

In her lecture, the Governor also highlighted the need for increase in funding, patient-centered smart healthcare, increasing the medical colleges’ network and doubling the medical seats at all levels, development and use of latest technologies for diagnosis, and international tie-ups with reputed medical institutes across the globe for the country to emerge as a global leader in healthcare.

Administrative Staff College of India director general Prof. Nirmala Bagchi, chairman, Court of Governors, ASCI, K. Padmanabaiah also spoke at the event. (Maxim News)
