India Is A Global Biological Hub: Dr. Venkatesh Devanur

Hyderabad: The two-day conference and expo—Bio Agri 2024 dedicated to sustainable biological agriculture concluded in the city on Wednesday evening at Ramoji Film City.

 Organised by the Bio Agri Inputs Producers Association (BIPA) the 4th edition of Bio Agri 2024 saw 250 delegates participating from the Agri-input industry across India, the USA, and other countries. It featured 35 speakers spanning over six sessions. 

Dr Venaktesh Devanur, Secretary of BIPA said India is a global agri-biological hub. He spoke about why biologicals are important and why India is important.

Agricultural biologicals are innovative nature-based technologies that can serve as an important part of many integrated crop management systems. 

Dr Roger Tripathi, Founder & CEO, of Global BioAg Innovations, US said Agro Biological is gaining focus. Biologicals will be the next agricultural technology revolution. Biological agricultural products are expected to replace chemical pesticides and fertilizers in the $240 billion crop protection and fertilizer market in the future.

Pam Parrone, Co-founder and Executive Chair of Invasive Species Corporation in her virtual address said Biological companies are getting funded despite a tough funding environment. Solasta Bio is a UK-based company that develops environment-friendly products that meet a global need for new and effective crop protection.  funded to the extent of $ 14 million; the Crop protection solutions provider AgroSpheres raised $37 million; France-based Ag Tech company specialized in the development of innovative phytosterol-based solutions raised $ 40 million; Biotalys funded $ 16.3 million; BioConsortia $ 15 million; Micropep $ 40 million; BotanicalSolution $ 23 million and Switch BioWorks $ 17 million.  Many product licensing deals are struck between many large and small companies.

Dr HM Venaktesh, Head of New Product Development, PI Industries said the market is crowded.  It has over 1200 companies. Over 100 acquisitions and 100 research collaborations have happened during the last five years.

The agricultural biologicals market size in India is expected to be  USD 1,269.24 million by 2030. The next BioAgri will be held from November 26 to 28, 2025.
