Indian Embassy Advisory After El Mencho Killed

Delhi/Hyderabad: The Indian Embassy in Mexico issued an advisory to Indian nationals after drug lord El Mencho was killed in a military operation. The mission urged Indians residing in Mexico to exercise caution and remain indoors amid escalating violence.

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was killed on Sunday. A federal official said the Mexican army carried out the operation in the western state of Jalisco. He was one of the most wanted men in Mexico and in the United States.

Following the killing, security operations and related road blockages were reported in several areas. Therefore, the Embassy asked Indian nationals to remain alert and limit movement.

“Dear all Indian nationals in Mexico. There are ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, Indian nationals in Jalisco State (areas of Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (areas of  Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State should shelter in place until further notice,” the Indian Embassy in Mexico posted on X.

The advisory highlighted specific regions, including Jalisco State, Tamaulipas State, areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State. Meanwhile, the embassy stressed that nationals should remain indoors until further notice.

The mission also shared safety instructions for Indian nationals. “Avoid areas around law enforcement activity. Be aware of your surroundings. Seek shelter and minimize unnecessary movements outside your shelter. Â Monitor local media for updates.

Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911.

Avoid crowds.”

“Keep family and friends advised of your location and well-being via phone, text, and social media,” the mission posted.

The advisory came soon after the killing of Nemesio Oseguera on Sunday. Authorities confirmed that the operation took place during a military action in Jalisco. As security forces continue operations, the Embassy has asked Indian nationals to remain cautious and follow official directions.
