India Reiterates Support for Two-State Solution in Israel-Palestine Conflict
New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 31 (Maxim News): India has once again reaffirmed its longstanding support for a negotiated two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, emphasizing its commitment to the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine. The government reiterated this position during a session in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Responding to a question on whether support for Palestine continues to be a cornerstone of India’s foreign policy, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said,
“India has consistently supported the Palestinian cause. Our policy remains unchanged — we advocate for a negotiated two-state solution with secure and recognized borders, enabling both Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully.”
A Longstanding Pillar of Indian Diplomacy
India’s relationship with Palestine traces back several decades and has remained a central theme of its Middle East policy. While India has built stronger strategic and economic ties with Israel in recent years, the country has maintained balanced diplomacy, reiterating its unwavering support for Palestinian statehood through peaceful negotiations.
Support for Peace and Stability
The Indian government emphasized that its position is aligned with global peace efforts and the principles of international law.
“India supports all diplomatic initiatives that aim to resume direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine,” the MEA added.
India has also been actively engaged in providing humanitarian assistance and developmental support to Palestine, including healthcare, infrastructure, and education projects through bilateral cooperation and UN agencies.
India’s Evolving Middle East Engagement
While India’s strategic engagement with Israel has grown significantly, including in the areas of defence, technology, and agriculture, it has simultaneously upheld its historical solidarity with Palestine, striking a careful diplomatic balance.
This approach reflects India’s broader foreign policy doctrine — promoting regional stability, peaceful coexistence, and development through dialogue.
