HMPV, an airborne virus with respiratory manifestations, has been spreading with increased surveillance around the world. It has symptoms similar to COVID-19: fever, cough, nasal congestion, and so on. This is usually very mild. Unfortunately, for infants and the elderly, especially those with compromised immune systems, it stands out as a big threat.
They say prevention is key, as HMPV currently has no vaccine or antiviral treatment. Authority agencies in Bengaluru are now making inquiries into the source of infection and analyzing possible risks of local transmission.
