New Delhi, Oct. 4: India has said there is no fixed timeline for the extradition of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said the request is being examined through a structured legal process.
Trivedi made the remarks during a panel discussion at the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 in Dhaka. He said courts are involved in the process, so no timeframe can be given for Hasina’s return.

Trivedi also addressed Bangladesh’s repeated request for Hasina’s extradition. He said India did not bring her to the country through its Air Force or Army.
According to Trivedi, Hasina arrived in India in August 2024 while she was still Bangladesh’s prime minister. He said India had limited options and allowed her to enter amid the situation then prevailing in Bangladesh.
Hasina left Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, after violent protests led to the collapse of her government. An interim administration was subsequently formed under Muhammad Yunus.
Since then, Bangladesh has repeatedly sought Hasina’s extradition. The issue has remained a point of tension in India Bangladesh relations.
