Hyderabad, May 10: Telangana is likely to witness an intense heatwave from May 12, with high temperatures expected to continue for nearly 10 days across several districts.
According to Telangana weather enthusiast T Balaji, north and eastern parts of the state are expected to face severe heatwave conditions along with hot loo winds.
Balaji stated that temperatures in several districts may touch 43 degrees Celsius during the coming days. Moreover, he warned that east Telangana districts could record temperatures as high as 47 degrees Celsius between May 18 and May 22 due to strong loo conditions.
Although scattered rainfall is likely in parts of Telangana over the next 10 days, weather experts said the showers may not provide significant relief from the rising temperatures.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to advance into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 15. However, despite progress in the Bay of Bengal region, Telangana may continue to experience hot weather conditions for some more time.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department predicted that heatwave conditions would return from Sunday, May 10.
Recently, temperatures crossed 42 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad and even touched 45 degrees Celsius in a few districts of Telangana. However, temperatures showed a slight decline on Saturday.
The lowest maximum temperature in the state on May 9 was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius in Nagarkurnool district.
In Hyderabad, Khairatabad recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 36 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Nizamabad district recorded one of the highest temperatures at 42.8 degrees Celsius.
