Nizamabad, July 11: An alleged interstate gang of thieves created panic in Nizamabad district after carrying out a series of robberies at four locations in a single night. Police suspect the accused may belong to an interstate criminal network operating from neighbouring Maharashtra.
According to police, the four-member gang travelled in a Tata Sumo and began their crime spree shortly after midnight on Friday.
Investigators said the gang first targeted an apartment in Nirmal district before entering Nizamabad.
In the early hours of Saturday, the accused allegedly broke open the shutter of a medical shop in Armur and escaped with approximately ₹1.5 lakh in cash.
At around 4:55 a.m., the gang reportedly reached Srinagar Colony, where they snatched a two-tola gold necklace from a woman identified as Lakshmi before fleeing.
About half an hour later, at around 5:25 a.m., the suspects allegedly struck again in the Dubba area of Nizamabad city.
According to police, they snatched a gold necklace and one earring from a woman who was sweeping the front yard of her house. While attempting to remove another earring, the victim raised an alarm, prompting her husband to rush outside. The suspects then fled the scene in their vehicle.
Following the incidents, police teams visited all the crime scenes and launched an investigation.
Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya inspected the affected areas, interacted with the victims and reviewed the evidence collected by investigators.
The Commissioner directed officials to:
- Examine CCTV footage from all crime locations.
- Trace the Tata Sumo used by the suspects.
- Identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
Police suspect the gang may have links to an interstate criminal network from Maharashtra, though investigations are ongoing.
The Police Commissioner appealed to residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the nearest police station or by dialling 100.
