However, Iran denied any such negotiations. Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said, “No negotiations have been held with the US,” and added that “fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets.” Therefore, uncertainty continues over diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue strikes on Iran and Lebanon. “There’s more to come,” he said. The remarks came as tensions remained high across the region.

Iran launched three waves of missiles at Israel early Tuesday. Reports indicated an impact in northern areas, according to Israeli authorities. At the same time, Israel carried out strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting infrastructure linked to Hezbollah.

Regional impact grows as oil prices and security risks rise

The conflict also affected several Gulf nations. In Kuwait, air defence shrapnel hit power lines, causing partial outages. Meanwhile, missile sirens sounded in Bahrain. Saudi Arabia said it destroyed 19 Iranian drones aimed at its Eastern Province.

Oil markets reacted quickly. Prices briefly dropped below USD 100 per barrel after Trump’s comments on talks. However, the relief was short lived. Brent crude returned to USD 104 per barrel in morning trade, marking a rise of over 40 per cent since the war began on February 28.

Trump had earlier set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He later extended it by five days. Iran allowed limited shipping but said it would still target vessels linked to the US, Israel, or their allies.

Military buildup and risks of wider conflict increase

The situation remains tense as military activity grows. Thousands of US Marines are heading to the region. This has raised speculation about possible action involving Kharg Island, a key part of Iran’s oil network.

The US recently struck the island’s defences but said oil facilities were not damaged. Meanwhile, Iran warned it could mine the Persian Gulf if it sees signs of a US troop landing. Such a move could disrupt global shipping and escalate the crisis further.

The Soufan Centre noted that the delay in the deadline could align with troop movements. It said the US may be preparing assets while using talks as cover. However, it also suggested that Trump could be seeking a way to ease tensions.

Casualties continue to rise. Iran’s Health Ministry reported over 1,500 deaths. In Israel, 15 people have been killed. At least 13 US military personnel and more than a dozen civilians in the region have also died.
