In a sensational testimony in a US court, an accused Pakistani terrorist claimed that Iranian spies hired him to target President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden . He told the court that he did so because Iranian spies threatened to kill his family.

A Pakistani man arrested on charges of plotting to assassinate American leaders made a sensational confession in court on Wednesday. The terrorist explained that he was hired by Iranian spies to target President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.

The accused terrorist’s name is Asif Merchant, and his age is 47 years old, police said. He told the court that he was threatening to kill his family and that he had to join the conspiracy to protect them. Defendant Asif Merchant told the judge in Brooklyn federal court, “I had no choice. My family was threatened.”

He is accused of paying two undercover FBI agents $5,000 to attack Trump. The accused businessman was a former banker whose banana business had suffered serious losses. He was in financial trouble and in April 2024, he told the court that his Iranian spy handler had ordered him to go to the United States and assassinate someone. “He didn’t tell me who it was, but he mentioned three names: Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Nikki Haley.”

At the time, Donald Trump and Joe Biden were leading candidates in the 2024 presidential election. Nikki Haley is a former governor of South Carolina. She dropped out of the race a month earlier.

Meanwhile, Asif Merchant was arrested in August 2024. He was arrested on charges of terrorism and contract killings. He claimed that his spy handler ordered him to carry out the assassination and steal undisclosed documents.

Meanwhile, his appointee was identified as Mehrdad Yousef, who is facing charges of being a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Merchant said that he agreed to the conspiracy because Yousef pressured his relatives living in Iran. He claimed that Yousef came to his home in Iran without any information and even showed him a weapon during their meeting.

According to reports, the accused told the judge, “I had to do this because my family was in danger.” Meanwhile, in June 2024, during a meeting at a budget hotel in Queens, the accused Merchant was recorded on FBI security cameras planning to assassinate a Republican leader. According to court documents filed later, the man turned out to be Donald Trump. (Maxim News)
