Iran had vowed to respond if attacked. It had warned that American military personnel and bases spread across the region would be targets. Therefore, the missile attack on the US 5th Fleet headquarters appears to be part of that response.

Regional Tensions Rise After Missile Exchanges

Meanwhile, hours after the strikes on Iran, explosions rocked northern Israel. The country worked to intercept incoming Iranian missiles. The blasts echoed shortly after the Israeli military said it would use its air defense systems to bring down the Iranian fire. However, there was no immediate word on any damage or casualties from the ongoing attack.

In a related development, the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen vowed to resume missile and drone attacks on Red Sea shipping routes and on Israel in support of Iran. Two senior Houthi officials shared this information on condition of anonymity because there was no official announcement from the Houthi leadership. One official said the rebels’ first attack could come as soon as “tonight.”

Earlier, the rebels had ceased their attacks on shipping routes as part of a deal with the Trump administration, which also halted US strikes against the Houthis. They had also stopped their attacks against Israel after an October ceasefire that halted major fighting in Gaza.

The situation remains fluid. However, the missile attack on the US 5th Fleet headquarters marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
