- Israel strikes Iran as conflict escalates across region
- Middle East war tensions rise with no diplomatic breakthrough
Hyderabad, March 27: Israel launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran early Friday, signalling further escalation in the ongoing Middle East war. The attacks came ahead of a planned United Nations Security Council meeting, with no visible diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and the United States.
According to reports, Israel targeted sites “in the heart of Tehran” as part of its intensified campaign against Iranian weapons production facilities. However, there was no immediate confirmation on the exact targets. Meanwhile, smoke was also seen rising over Beirut, although Israel did not confirm any strike there.
At the same time, air raid sirens sounded across Israel as the military attempted to intercept Iranian missiles. Iran continued its offensive in the region. Reports indicated incoming drones and missiles in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Therefore, the situation across the Gulf region remains tense and unpredictable.
US diplomatic push and military buildup in region
Meanwhile, the United States is pushing Iran to accept a 15 point proposal for a ceasefire. The proposal includes limits on Iran’s nuclear programme and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran rejected the offer and proposed its own five point plan. It demanded reparations and recognition of its control over the Strait.
Despite diplomatic efforts, the US has also increased its military presence. Thousands of additional troops have been deployed to the region. This includes around 2,500 Marines and at least 1,000 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne. These moves suggest possible preparations for further military action.
Global markets have reacted sharply to the crisis. Oil prices have surged, with Brent crude reaching USD 107 per barrel in morning trading. This marks a rise of over 45 per cent since the conflict began on February 28. Meanwhile, stock markets in Asia declined after losses on Wall Street.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a key concern. Iran’s control over this route has raised fears of a global energy crisis. A Gulf Arab bloc reported that Iran is collecting tolls from ships to allow safe passage. This has added pressure on global trade and shipping routes.
The United Nations Security Council is set to hold a closed meeting in New York. Russia requested the session to address US and Israeli attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure. The United States, which holds the presidency, scheduled the meeting.
Casualties continue to rise across multiple regions. More than 1,900 people have died in Iran, according to its Health Ministry. Eighteen people have died in Israel, while at least three Israeli soldiers were killed in Lebanon. Additionally, at least 13 American troops have died. Deaths have also been reported in the West Bank, Gulf Arab states, and Iraq.
As the conflict nears one month, tensions remain high. Diplomatic efforts continue, but no clear resolution is in sight.
