- Jammu and Kashmir police start first-time mosque inspections
- Authorities collect detailed personal and mosque information
Hyderabad: Jammu and Kashmir police have launched a major operation to inspect mosques in the region, which is considered sensitive due to rising security concerns. This is the first time such an operation is being conducted in the area. Authorities are collecting detailed information about mosques and the people associated with them.
Police officials said every mosque in the operation area will be documented using four-page forms. In addition, individuals present in the mosques will have to fill three-page personal detail forms. These documents will record information about imams, muezzins, khatibs, and bayt ul maals, as well as the names of attendees, their contact details, and identification information.
The mosque-related documents also include details such as the year of construction, number of floors, area, sources of income, donations, expenses, land type, bank accounts, activities conducted, and timing of prayers. Personal documents require submission of Aadhaar, PAN, driving license, passport, mobile device information including IMEI numbers, email, travel history, income, ATM and credit card details, and family details.
Authorities stated that the operation aims to strengthen surveillance and curb anti-social and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials believe that having complete information on mosques and attendees will help prevent unlawful movements and activities. Some locals have expressed concern over privacy issues, questioning the collection of family details along with personal information. Police have not issued an official statement regarding these concerns.
This mosque inspection operation marks a significant step by J&K police in tightening security in sensitive regions, while also sparking debate on balancing law enforcement with individual privacy rights.
