Hyderabad, June 11: The long pending issue of housing plots for journalists is likely to come up for discussion before the Cabinet Sub Committee, with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka indicating that the matter would be taken up at the panel’s meeting scheduled on Friday.
A delegation of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Journalists Housing Societies in Hyderabad met the Deputy Chief Minister at Praja Bhavan on Thursday and urged the government to expedite the allocation of house sites to eligible journalists.
The JAC representatives informed Bhatti Vikramarka that journalists have been waiting for housing plots for several years. They explained the current status of the issue and highlighted the need to provide house sites to media professionals who have been awaiting a resolution for a long time.
The delegation also briefed the Deputy Chief Minister on recent developments related to the issue. They referred to the remarks and assurances made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy regarding journalists’ housing plots.
In addition, the JAC leaders shared details of their recent meetings with Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy, and Information and Public Relations Commissioner Mukunda Reddy. They sought early action to address the long standing demand.
Cabinet Sub Committee to Discuss Issue
Responding to the delegation, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the matter would be placed before the Cabinet Sub Committee for discussion during its meeting on Friday.
Although no formal decision was announced, the Deputy Chief Minister’s assurance has raised hopes among journalists awaiting allotment of housing plots.
The JAC maintained that the allocation of house sites remains a key welfare issue for media professionals and expressed confidence that the government would take a positive decision after reviewing the matter.
Those who met the Deputy Chief Minister included JAC representatives Brahmandabheri Goparaju, Mikkilineni Ravindra Babu, Virahat Ali, UGV Murali Krishna, Suraj Bharadwaj, Srinivas, and senior journalist Margam Srinivas.
The issue of journalists’ housing plots has remained pending for several years, and media organizations have repeatedly sought government intervention for an early resolution.
