Jubilee Hills Bypoll | 58 candidates to contest

According to the Returning Officer, a total of 211 nominations were initially filed for the by-election, of which 81 were found valid after scrutiny.

Among them, 23 candidates later withdrew their nominations, leaving 58 contenders in the final fray. Election analysts noted that this marks the highest number of candidates ever contesting in Jubilee Hills constituency’s history.

Earlier elections had considerably fewer participants — 13 in 2009, 21 in 2014, 18 in 2018, and 19 in the 2023 Assembly elections. The by-election was necessitated following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, who had won the 2023 election from Jubilee Hills.

This time, the race is witnessing heightened competition not only among major political parties but also from independents, student leaders, and representatives of farmers’ groups.

Observers say this surge reflects growing local interest and the evolving dynamics of urban political contests in Hyderabad.
