Jurala Dam | Mahabubnagar, August 13: Growing concerns have been raised about the safety of the Jurala Dam, a vital resource for the joint Mahabubnagar district.
Recent incidents of reservoir gates being washed away, including the 19th gate of the Tungabhadra Dam, have heightened these fears.
The Jurala Dam itself is facing significant challenges. Most of its gates are leaking, a problem that experts have been highlighting for years.
Despite government funds allocated in 2021 for repairs, only five out of 62 gates have been fixed due to technical issues and delayed fund disbursement, according to Jurala EE Zubair Ahmed.
These issues have led to widespread doubts about the dam’s structural integrity and its ability to withstand heavy rainfall and water pressure.
