Jurala Floods Intensify: 12 Gates Lifted As Inflows Surge From Krishna Basin
Hyderabad, June 26 (Maxim News): Heavy rainfall in the upstream Krishna River basin has triggered significant inflows into the Priyadarshini Jurala Project in Jogulamba Gadwal district, prompting authorities to lift 12 gates of the dam to manage the rising water levels.
As of Wednesday, inflows into the reservoir reached 95,119 cusecs, forcing officials to discharge a total of 96,172 cusecs of water downstream. Of this, 63,696 cusecs were released through the spillway, and 30,422 cusecs were channeled for hydropower generation.
Jurala Dam Water Levels:
- Full capacity: 9.657 TMC
- Current storage: 8.010 TMC
The situation is being closely monitored by irrigation and disaster response teams as water levels continue to rise due to upstream rainfall in the Krishna basin.
Srisailam Reservoir Receives Heavy Inflows
The Srisailam project, located downstream from Jurala, is also witnessing increased inflows. Currently, it is receiving over 1.02 lakh cusecs from the Jurala discharge.
- Current water level: 861.70 feet
- Full Reservoir Level (FRL): 885 feet
- Maximum capacity: 215.8 TMC
- Current storage: 111.40 TMC
Authorities on High Alert
Authorities are maintaining a high alert and are prepared for further discharges if inflows increase. Local residents living near the riverbanks and downstream villages have been advised to remain cautious and follow instructions from district officials.
