Speaking in the Council, the Chief Minister said that rising income levels have increased the number of cars in families. As a result, traffic has grown sharply in Hyderabad and nearby areas. Therefore, the government has expanded metro and MMTS services to address congestion.

Hyderabad Elevated Corridors plan focuses on seamless traffic flow

The Chief Minister explained that roads are being divided into underpasses, surface routes, and elevated corridors. He said the goal is to ensure that traffic does not stop anywhere. He added that pollution-causing industries will be moved outside the Outer Ring Road to reduce environmental impact.

He also said that L and T did not come forward for metro expansion. Therefore, the government allocated Rs. 15,000 crores and took over the metro project. He said the metro network will be expanded by another 76 km. He also noted that the central government has responded positively to this expansion.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that many employees are travelling from the outskirts to the city. To address this, elevated corridors will be built towards Shamirpet and Medchal. He added that discussions are ongoing with central agencies and land is being acquired for the projects.

He acknowledged difficulties in road widening in areas like Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills. However, he said steps are being taken to ensure vehicles do not stop at signals. He also said footpath encroachments are being removed in busy areas, while space will be provided to small traders elsewhere.

The government is also setting up multi-level car parking facilities in some locations. He warned that pollution could rise like in Delhi if precautions are not taken. Therefore, radial roads are being developed within the ORR, along with elevated corridors to reduce travel distance.
