Hyderabad: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has taken a fresh swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent “smash the patriarchy” remark.
Ranaut shared a post on social media that mocked Gandhi’s appeal and linked it to the ongoing controversy over actor Kriti Sanon’s appearance in a jewellery advertisement.
Ranaut’s post featured an image showing Rahul Gandhi asking a woman to “smash the patriarchy”.
The woman responds with a reference to “Bharat Mata ki jai”. The post came amid a wider political and social debate over women’s freedom, clothing choices and public criticism.

The controversy began after actor Kriti Sanon faced criticism over her outfit in a Rakshabandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA. Ranaut described the outfit as “intentionally creepy”, while other critics also questioned its presentation.
Sanon later questioned why women continue to face criticism over their clothing choices. Rahul Gandhi responded by backing her position. He said a woman should have the freedom to decide what she wears, does and where she goes. He also used the hashtag “smash the patriarchy”.
Meanwhile, GIVA withdrew the advertisement following the controversy. The company said it did not intend to hurt religious or cultural sentiments.
Ranaut’s response added a political dimension to the dispute. The BJP MP from Mandi has previously criticised Gandhi and other Congress leaders over issues involving women.
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also criticised Gandhi over his comments. She cited several incidents and questioned his record on women’s representation and empowerment. She also raised questions about women’s political representation in Congress ruled states.
The exchange shared by Ranaut also referenced issues including the Women’s Reservation Bill, triple talaq and the Shah Bano case. The wider controversy around Gandhi’s “smash the patriarchy” phrase began after his remarks at the Chhatron Ki Goonj event in Pune on August 22.
Ranaut’s latest post has therefore brought the political debate back into focus. The exchange also reflects the continuing clash between BJP and Congress leaders over gender rights, women’s freedom and political accountability.
The remarks come as the debate over the advertisement continues to attract attention on social media. Both political leaders and public figures have entered the discussion, turning a dispute over an advertisement into a broader debate over social attitudes toward women.
