Karachi Bakery fined For fungus in sweet

Hyderabad, Jan 3: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ordered a prominent bakery in the city to pay a penalty of Rs.10,000 for selling a sweet that had fungus on it.

According to the complainant, he had purchased the sweet from the Khajaguda branch of Karachi Bakery on Saturday. When opened, the fungus was noticed. He approached the civic body through Twitter and GHMC immediately responded saying that the concerned officials have been alerted and the issue will be resolved at the earliest.

Upon inspecting, the Circle Assistant Medical Officer KS Ravi and Food Contamination Control Officer Surya found lack of sanitation in the bakery, waste disposal, use of plastics, improper sewerage system, and non-compliance with Covid rules.

According to the bakery, the investigation is taking place on how the customer received the package with the fungus and efforts were on to prevent such incidents in future.
