Karnataka Agrees To Release Four TMC Water To Jurala Project In Telangana
Hyderabad, Feb 6 (Maxim News): The Karnataka government has agreed to release four TMC of Krishna River water from the Narayanpur Dam to the Jurala project in Telangana.
This decision follows an official request made by Telangana Ministers D.Sridhar babu and Jupalli Krishna Rao, who met with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The request was made to mitigate the drinking water crisis in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district of Telangana. Karnataka government has clarified that the release of water will be depending upon the availability of water in the Narayanpur Dam.
At present, inflows into the Jurala project has dwindled to 749 cusecs, and with Narayanpur Dam shutting all its gates, the inflow is expected to drop to zero by the end of the week. The current water storage at Jurala stands at 5.29 TMC as against its gross storage capacity of 9.65 TMC.
The Narayanpur dam in Karnataka has been receiving close to 1 TMC of water daily, with the Almatti Dam maintaining an outflow of over 18,000 cusecs (approximately 1.5 TMC per day).
The ongoing depletion of major water sources, including Srisailam, has raised concerns over the drinking water supply schemes in Mahbubnagar district. The storage levels in Srisailam have dropped to 73 TMC against its total capacity of 215 TMC. (Maxim News)
