Hyderabad: Congress Rajya Sabha candidates from Telangana have been finalized. The party high command has approved the names of Vem Narender Reddy and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. They will file their nominations on Thursday.

The announcement ends days of speculation within the party. Although the names of former MLA Vamsichand Reddy, former MP VH, Planning Commission Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy, Vinay Kumar, Jetty Kusumakumar and others were mentioned, the high command cleared only two names. However, the party leadership chose CM advisor Vem Narender Reddy as one of the final candidates.

Vem Narender Reddy hails from Mahabubabad district. He is known to be the closest aide of CM Revanth Reddy. Earlier, he contested the 2004 Assembly elections from Mahabubabad on behalf of TDP and won as an MLA. Later, he contested from Hanumakonda constituency in the by election held in 2012 but lost.
In 2015, he contested as an MLC candidate under the MLA quota and lost. Later, Vem Narender Reddy joined the Congress along with Revanth Reddy. Since then, he has remained active in party affairs.

Meanwhile, the selection of Abhishek Manu Singhvi reflects the party’s decision to field experienced leaders for the Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana. The candidates are expected to complete the nomination process on Thursday as scheduled.
